I felt kind of guilty taking a spot at Suzy's because the place was PACKED with musicians.
Linda Bruce & Ron were back from South Carolina. Kaye Reznik was there, Russell Sommers, Chuck Matthieu, Paige Brown (and mom Sherry), and Jay Silvas.
Mike Holmes (the emcee) & I decided we’d split my timeslot (2nd) and Jay asked me to play on his 3 songs (3rd) so I stayed up for a while.
Mike & I along with Brian Creamer (drums) and Mike Creamer (bass) did Mike's song “Down By The Seashore” for Sherry, “Walking In Memphis”, and “Horse With No Name”. It went pretty well.
Jay & I kicked ASS with his songs “All I Want” and “History Repeats”, we capped it with Paige Brown on “Breakeven” which went over huge and really sounded great. So Jay heads back to school in Virginia this week and he goes out with a bang. I was really proud.
Paige & Dave went next. Dave is such a monster player. A show-boater too. He kicked butt and I felt like a house painter.

Had an absolute blast playing with Mike Holmes at Suzy's.
We had no rehearsals... we had no setlists... we had no idea what we were playing until we got there.
There were a few crashes but for the most part it went off well.
Personally, I'd like to dial in some songs. I think Mike feels the same so we may have to get togehter in the future and rehearse some stuff. Still, we had a great time and the night was over waaaay too soon.
Even managed to sell a couple CDs!
After just a day of preparation I took the stage with Jay Silvas at The Mint. It was Jay's first time in a Hollywood club but I think he enjoyed it despite a few bumps. I know I had a blast! Thanks to Jay for letting me ride along!
Our good friend Paige Brown played with her band too and they kicked butt! Kudos!
Ok, for the record I don't speed read... nor do I read music at all (well, at Kindergarden level maybe). But I enjoy short assignments like the one I got today. With a little luck and a LOT of cramming I'll be joining Jay Silvas on stage at the Mint tomorrow night. We got together this morning and went over his set. We divided up parts so now I'm in heavy-practice mode.
The songs are EXCELLENT and deceptively complex. Lots of parts and some chords that I've never used before. I love every one of them and that makes even more inspiration to get it down tight. Fingers crossed...
